Light in the Wilderness
In Finland, a major threat to nature is the impact of mines on the surrounding waterways. The documentary Kitkajoki tells about the Kitkajoki in Pohjois Kuusamo, whose nationally valuable nature of Oulanga is now threatened by the gold/uranium/cobalt mining project planned nearby. The discussion has been heated, as tourism entrepreneurs from Kuusamo have taken a cautious approach to the start of operations a kilometer away from Kitkajoki. The film tells about the relationship between man and nature through the aphorisms of the late Kuusamo writer Reino Rinne.
Kitkajoki document movie for its international name "Light in the Wilderness" received gold award in 2017 at Germanys WorldFilmFestival. It was also awarded with the Magic Eye for its photos. In 2018 at Frances Duaville Green Awards the movie received "Creative Excellence" honorable mention.
"Kitkajoki - rakas joki" is co-production of Rapid River and YLE/TV1 production company. Finlands film association and Raija and Ossi Tuuliainen have also supported the making of this document. Document movie Kitkajoki had its premier in 18.8.2017 at Savonlinna.
