Northern silence
The information disclosure advisory board has awarded a script grant to researcher Outi Ampuja and photographer/producer Tauno Kohonen for the making of this documentary film. Ampuja is an international expert in the field and Kohonen has been recognized for his pictures and nature videos that show and describe silence. The main scenes of the documentary are located in the following themes.
Science studies the effect of nature's silence on humans in today's busy world. Does silence have a greater effect on human well-being than we now understand? The old masters of the art; composers, writers and painters have worked in the peace and quiet of nature.
The Indigenous peoples have lived under the conditions of nature and their contact with nature has been genuine and deep. Can we learn to understand silence by being in nature.
Retreat has been a part of culture since the beginning of history. Wise sages have often lived alone in the middle of nature. Nowadays, a retreat can be seen as a withdrawal from the busy world to privacy, to one's own peace. Most of the time, the background is a spiritual competition with powers greater than humans.
